Matt is a great trainer! He builds personal connections with his clients and that is something that I think is important and cool. Matt always makes sure to help in anyway he can to better your workout, whether that is fixing your form or changing up that workout, he does anything to fit your needs. “I am a 60+ year old Obese man with Multiple Negative Health problems the most severe of which being: Arthritic Joints. Insulin Dependent Diabetes. A Surgically Damaged left foot. One fake knee, One Bad knee. A Badly Bulged Disk in my lower back. A Trashed Right shoulder.
In the past 5 years these issues have combined to sideline me from my formerly Active Lifestyle, both in my Work & Personal life. I was walking with a cane & always carried crutches in the event of an emergency where I might need to walk some distance. I became resigned to accepting my fate thinking " It is what it is."
in June 2020 my youngest son convinced me to try 1 more thing in attempts to get my life back & set up an appointment for me with his trainer Matt Unglesby at Zen Fitness. I called Matt before my first "1 on 1 session" to discuss my handicaps so he could come up with a game plan. I walked into Zen Fitness for the 1st time leaning heavily on my cane. Matt had readied our workout space with a variety of exercise equipment & a notebook. He spent time explaining each exercise before I tried it & watched my every move & expression as we went through each one. Throughout it all he was constantly making notes as to what was easy or hard, or what I told him was too difficult or uncomfortable for me to achieve. On those occasions, he would, after making his notes, On the Fly & Out of Thin Air adapt/change the exercise to accommodate my immediate needs by coming up with an alternative method of my accomplishing the task at hand thus making it Do-able for me. Matt would then make more notes. After our session ended, he instructed me as to which exercises he wanted me to do at home the remainder of the week till our next scheduled session, which I did.
I spent the following 2 weeks still walking in with my cane. By the 3rd session I was able to leave my cane at the front counter & walk to the workout area without it. I was a bit wobbly but was walking on my own without support.
I was Overjoyed when upon my arrival for my 4th session, I walked into the studio and out onto the workout area Matt had prepared Completely Cane Less!
"Mr. Matt" (as I have come to call him) greeted me with his usual enthusiasm stating how Excited He was to see me coming in "on my own 2 feet." As always he had prepared for my arrival so we went right to work.
It's Almost October now. I am no longer carrying crutches around in my truck, I am just carrying my cane which I still occasionally use to walk on uneven ground. I have so far lost 12 lbs, my clothes have begun to fit a little looser, I can stand to be on my feet & moving around for longer periods of time before I need to sit down. Because of Matts Commitment to helping me to become stronger & more mobile, I have once again found Hope. Hope that there are still more activities & adventures awaiting me in my future.
Mr. Matt's Passion for his work & his total commitment to the facilitation of his clients overall health & well being is Genuine. His Knowledge & Skill as a Trainer are for me Unquestionable. His natural good hearted Enthusiasm & Can Do attitude are Consistent & Highly Contagions. If your getting tired, he does not make you do that last set. He will however, have already Inspired you to WANT to do it for yourself.
That's my story! I told it Gospel & I'm stickin to it! If in reading this you're thinking "it sounds to good to be true", TRY HIM one time. I am Convinced that no rationally thinking person could come away from a session with him holding any different opinion of either He or his Training Methods than my son or I do.”

“I rate my trainer 5 out of 5 because in our group sessions he watches all of our techniques and form and corrects us when we need it. He guides us in the right direction so we are less likely to have an injury and insure that we get the most out of the exercise. He comes up with out of the box circuits so we work hard but have fun at the same time. He has been bringing kickboxing and Steel Mace into the circuits which are exciting additions. We have a fun morning group and it is enjoyable to work so hard but allows us to laugh and challenge each other. He is always there if we need to adjust the workout if our bodies aren’t in agreement with a specific exercise. I appreciate that he offers multiple times in the morning for our group sessions so we have many options. Our circuits are a great start to the day and can feel the morning effort all day long!!!”

He has an alternative to every workout if it doesn’t suit you, so you are not forced to do anything you don’t feel comfortable doing! I also want to add, he is also very creative with his workouts! “I initially started personal training to get back to a healthy weight and improve my quality of life. After reaching my goal weight, my intention was to continue on my own. However, after working with Matt for several months, I realized there are tons of benefits to working with a personal trainer and that i would not get the same results without him!
Matt is not like some trainers who provide the same training plan to all of their clients. Instead, he customized each training session based on my personal fitness goals and any limitations I have. He has the knowledge needed to determine what exercises will work for me an prepares each workout in advance to maximize my results. He consistently challenges me and encourages me to accomplish goals I never thought were possible. What I like most about training with Matt is that I don’t have to think about what exercises I should be doing or how many sets/reps. I also like the variety of types of exercise that he includes such as Yoga, Steel Mace training, Kickboxing, Weight training, etc.”
